A little over week after drafting MacKenzie Gore, the Padres are set to announce his signing per a report by Dennis Lin of the San Diego Tribune:

Gore will receive slightly more than the allotted $6.68 million for the third overall pick as he’s reportedly agreed to a $6.7 million bonus.  While the Padres will likely take it easy with him this year, he has a more developed arsenal than the typical prep player, so he should make his way to Fort Wayne next season in a similar manner to Mason Thompson and Reggie Lawson.

In other news, the organization announced that Jose Rondon will be promoted from AA San Antonio to AAA El Paso.  The 23 year old middle infielder slashed an impressive .293/.343/.433 for the Missions this season, displaying a stronger ability to hit than his prospect grades have suggested.

With the incumbent El Paso shortstop, Dusty Coleman, holding a batting average under the Mendoza Line, Rondon could relegate him to the bench once Carlos Asuaje returns if he can adjust quickly to AAA pitching.
